Abstract

In this work, we report on the concentration, composition and associated impact of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in 50 elementary and high school classrooms under various occupational and ventilation conditions. Investigations include continuous monitoring with low-cost sensors, chemical analysis of air samples and testing of student performance and well-being. Though total volatile organic compound (TVOC) concentrations changed depending on occupancy and ventilation, a positive correlation between reduced TVOC levels and student performance or well-being was not found.
