During his PhD studies, Haojie Jin investigated the symbiotic interaction between leguminous plants and rhizobia. Biological nitrogen fixation is one of the most efficient ways to give crops the ability to thrive without using costly, artificial fertilisers. Haojie Jin’s focus was on exploiting natural variation and new sequencing-based methods for genetic analysis to identify plant genes that influence the selection of symbiotic partners.

The PhD degree was completed at the Centre for Carbohydrate Signalling and Recognition, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics, Science and Technology, Aarhus University.
