Abstract
What has Broadway to do with Jerusalem? This article discusses the relation between drama and theology. Firstly, I outline five different uses of drama (usus dramatis) and define dramatic theology in its own right, as well as in relation to narrative theology. Secondly, I offer a trinitarian typology of dramatic theology by distinguishing between a dramatic theology of the Father (God as author), of the Son (God as actor), and of the Holy Spirit (God as director). Thirdly, I explicitly deal with the question of the relation between drama and theology by discussing drama as a praeambula fidei or ancilla theologiae and by dealing with the question of an analogia dramatis, focusing especially on the direction of the analogical flow. Lastly, I outline the main benefits of using drama as a framework for theology.
