Gender and age productivity–wage gaps in innovative work

Using comprehensive linked employer–employee data for 2017 for Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Slovenia, this chapter examines the role of gender and age in wage and productivity differentials in knowledge-intensive occupations. In particular, the study focuses on gender-and age-related wage and productivity differentials in non-innovative and innovative work – defined as work involving intangible capital (see Chapter 6 for definitions). We thus seek to analyse wage and productivity differentials across three dimensions (gender, age and type of work), which is challenging both due to the country sizes and the relatively small share of employees in many knowledge-intensive occupations. Given these challenges, the analysis here, particularly regarding productivity estimates, should be seen as exploratory.
