Abstract

As lexicographic innovation, which is aimed at making better dictionaries in theory and practice, is what keeps lexicography a sustaining discipline and what disruptively prepares it for the future, innovation narratives are salient in lexicographic research literature. Combining quantitative and qualitative methods, we explore lexicographic innovation narratives and their framing in Nordic dictionary research articles for the decade 2010-2020. At the macro level, we used SketchEngine and AntConc concordance tools to map the distribution of narratives in a corpus of 212 articles published in Nordiska Studier i Lexikografi. At the micro level, we performed an actantial analysis of frames embedded in the narratives. Our results confirm that innovation narratives, while being at the heart of Nordic dictionary research articles, are framed quite differently.
