The limited resources available in a scenario of
wireless sensor networks (WSN) can severely impact the reliable
data propagation because they have a direct impact on the
network lifetime. This paper proposes a novel approach to
maximize the WSN lifetime by combining energy –awareness and
load-balancing in heterogeneous WSNs. We have studied the
stable election protocol (SEP) for heterogeneous networks and
implemented it jointly with the LEACH energy load distributing
protocol. The performance has been shown in terms of number of
transmitted packets and number of nodes staying alive after a
given number of rounds.
