N2 - Mobile apps have gained a tremendous popularity. In 2016 more than 140 billion apps were already downloaded from the app store, generating a sales volume of $28 billion and by far, gaming apps are the most popular and profitable app category. Given this enormous potential, it is surprising that little research is known about the drivers of market success for mobile gaming apps. Therefore, we define and verify attributes that significantly impact the choice decision by users. We investigate which attributes of a mobile gaming app have an impact on users’ choice decision and gaining insights into the perceived utility of specific attributes of mobile gaming apps. Finally, we were able to identify, which attributes of a mobile gaming app potentially compensate each other from the perspective of users.
