The paper reconstructs the siege of the Castle Tannenberg in 1399 on the basis of archaeological and written sources. The siege of Tannenberg, was one of the first using fireweapons. The destruction of the Castle provides a precise terminus ante quem for all archaeological finds. The analysis reveals the correlation between the rise of territorialization and the fall of the small knights' power during the late Middle Ages.
