N2 - Pig diets are supplemented with crystalline amino acids (AA) to balance the AA profile. This is necessary to avoid poor nitrogen (N) utilization, urinary N excretion, and low growth rates. Valine (Val) is one of the branched-chain AA which cannot be synthesized by the animal and therefore is listed as indispensable AA. In European grower diets, Val is often the fifth limiting AA after lysine (Lys), methionine (Met), threonine (Thr), and tryptophan (Trp) and appears to be a deficient nutrient in pig feedstuffs in regard to the minimum requirement for pigs. The objective of this study was to determine the requirements of Val that supports the maximum animal performance.
