Abstract

The data files described below contains information on larval body size traits and stress tolerance traits obtained using contrasting methods (manual and automated). The species investigated are black soldier flies (Hermetia illucens) and houseflies (Musca domestica). Larval body size is estimated using manual weighing and imaging analysis software (Noldus EthoVision XT 15.0.1418, Wageningen, the Netherlands). Stress tolerance traits are obtained using manual observations of traditional thermal tolerance assays and by using software for video analysis (Noldus EthoVision XT).
