Intuitive visualizations of building performance simulation (BPS) output are important to the uptake of simulation-based decision-making in the early design stages. However, reports on studies that investigate this aspect of BPS output visualizations are scarce and often assume what building design stakeholders consider as desirable traits for intuitive interpretation. This paper reports on a research effort to compile a list of traits that characterize visualizations of BPS output relevant to decision-making in the early design stages. A group of different building stakeholders participated in a co-creation workshop where design games was used to generate data for identification of desirable traits. The success in implementing the traits in three prototypes was assessed by 181 questionnaire respondents. Finally, the combined experience from the studies was compiled into a list of traits as inspiration to tool developers and simulation experts who want to create BPS output visualization relevant to decision-making.
