Abstract
We share our data online from behavioral to self-reported data in order to reach out and optimize the communication and interaction with people and services. Even though these data are not structured in one single database do we expect this to be the case when interacting with services online? This paper presents a study of the development and use of an app algorithm called the Social Library that connects a user’s Facebook data with the public library database in order to increase social media presence and show personalized results in the newsfeed. The aim of the paper is to understand how algorithms handle data as our identity, what happens when contradictory data occur and what are users attitudes towards seemingly personalized services?
