Abstract
This study presents the first instrumental radiometric date for one of the longest linear archaeological structures in southern Jordan ''Khatt Shebib''. Quartz OSL profiles into the buried surfaces of two rocks from the structure near the modern village of Ayl enabled us to confirm that the surfaces had been exposed to light before burial, but to different degrees at various locations on the same rock. We identified layers as well-bleached where modelling suggested that the pre-burial signal was <3% of the signal developed as a result of burial. Burial doses were estimated for these well-bleached layers, giving a burial date of 400 ± 100 BCE. This date is consistent with those from archaeological survey of pottery sherds in adjacent occupation sites and provides the first direct confirmation that these may be associated.
