Beskrivelse

This project investigates whether student evaluations of university teachers (SETs) in Denmark are gender biased. A number of international studies have found evidence for gender bias with female teachers receiving lower evaluation scores than their male colleagues. Our study aims to ascertain if gender bias is present in Denmark and explore the mechanisms behind a possible bias e.g. what factors may moderate the relation and whether a possible bias reflects gender differences in teaching style. Our study relies on: 1) Actual SETs across the social sciences at Aarhus university, 2) Experiments where students are exposed to a presentation in a gender-neutral voice and different groups of students provided with different information about the gender of the presenter and 3) Observations of actual teaching situations to analyze the possible mediating role of teaching style.
