Genomic predictions are important tool in modern dairy farming, especially for the breeding program but also for management within herds. Genomic predictions have however not been widely available for crossbred dairy cows and the genetic structure of crossbred animals induces challenges not present for evaluations within pure breeds. The aim of this project is to develop statistical methods for providing genomic predictions for crossbred dairy cows, focusing on simple crosses of the VikingJersey, VikingRed and VikingHolstein. For the first part the focus is on relatively simple methods that use solutions from the evaluation of purebred for the prediction of crossbred, and investigating the applicability of accounting for breed of origin of alleles in the genotype of the crossbred animals for the task. Further development will include how phenotypes of crossbred can be incorporated.
