Beskrivelse
Problems due to planning are a general problem within the construction sector, and causes great loses in terms of economy, time etc. These problems are caused by the very chaotic, complex and very unpredictable nature of the construction process. The PhD project is trying to increase the reliability and robustness of the construction planning process in an attempt to increase productivity.
A more robust plan enhances the probability of observance of the budget, time schedule etc and gives a more manageble construction project. Furthermore contribute an improved planning to a “better” construction project. It gives an improved overview and flow during the construction phase, and due to a better basis for decisions the decision-maker will be able to act faster and more proactive and increase the probability in making the most appropriate decision.
As a part of the Lean Construction approach to increase productivity in construction a new planning tool called Last Planner System of Production Control (LPS) is developed. LPS is a scheduling tool developed to increase the reliability of the schedule and thereby handling errors and defects which occur during construction. To measure the reliability of the schedule the PPC-measurement was introduced.
Before LPS the PPC level was measured to be about 50 %, after implementation the PPC level was recorded to be at the 70 % level. Furthermore a decrease in non-productive time on 15 % from 50 to 35 % has been observed. This includes only loss of productivity which can be assigned to delays and rework.
Indeed there is still, both reliability in planning and more essential productivity to be achieved. Still 30 % of all planed activities do not finish as planned and still 35 % is non-productive time. Therefore the elements in LPS are analyzed with critical eyes. This is done through a literature survey, questionnaires and case studies. Afterwards the elements of LPS are analyzed and the critical elements are tried eliminated in an attempt to improve the planning system which should lead to an increased PPC.
