Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women in the world. Despite an effective cervical screening program, 370 Danish women are diagnosed with cervical cancer every year and ~100 women die from the disease. Although the cervical cancer incidence is high in older women, the incidence of cervical precursor lesions is low, which may be due to difficulties in the examination of older women with dysplasia. The “See and treat” procedure may allow women with an abnormal cervical cytology to be diagnosed and treated in one visit. Methods: This prospective cohort study will explore if the implementation of “See and treat” can optimize the diagnostics and treatment of older women with abnormal cytology.
