The objective of this project is to identify the practices that lead to gender segregated education and labour markets. This is done with the following research question: How do STEM teaching and career guidance in primary and secondary schooling condition the formation of educational interests and aspirations of girls and young women? The project differentiates itself from other studies of educational choices that have concentrated on how choices are influenced by family background or, more recently by friends and youth culture.Instead, this project focuses on the interplay between gendered practices in schooling (teaching and career guidance) and identity formation of girls and young people. The project combines theories and methodologies associated with the concept of governmentality with recent theoretical interest in affect to develop an analytical strategy apt to capture co-constitutive dynamics of discourse and affect in subjectification processes.External partnersMie Plotnikof, DPU, AUDorthe Staunæs, DPU, AUAnja Pors, KP
