During the Danish Galathea3 expedition in 2006-2007, different marine organisms (e.g. bivalves, gastropods and fish) as well as sediment from both coastal and open waters covering 6 continents (Europe, Africa, Austalia, Antactica, South America and North America) and Arctic were sampled for a sample bank, which is stored at Aarhus University.
The samples have been used for several studies on contaminants like heavy metals, organotins, PAH, organochlorines and brominated flame retardants as well as biological effects indicators such as imposex and bile metabolites.
Until now data have been published in 6 peer-reviewed scientific publications.
Project leader for the contaminant project was professor Ole Andersen from Roskilde University.
