The project involves developing novel signal processing based techniques to estimate intracranial compliance from pressure and volume measurements taken from an existing medical device for neurocritical care, named IRRAflow. Intracranial compliance parameter quantifies the capability to withstand increase in intracranial volume while avoiding a rise in intracranial pressure. The information on the compliance parameter can provide a real-time predictive and quantitative value that assists physicians in determining the patient’s response to therapy. To this end, the main goal of the project is to pioneer techniques that will enable the IRRAflow device to estimate the compliance parameter internally from its pressure and volume measurements.
