Beskrivelse

Electroporation is a technique where the cell wall integrity is briefly disrupted by an electrical current, and afterwards the cell wall is more permeable for substances for a given period of time.
Reversible electroporation leaves the cell viable and capable of re-establishing the membrane integrity, whereas irreversible electroporation disrupts the cell wall to such a degree, that the cell undergoes apoptosis.
Electroporation of mucosa can have several purposes: Reversible electroporation can aid influx of substances, e.g. chemotherapy, vaccines or viral vectors, otherwise to large to penetration of the cell wall.
Irreversible electroporation can facilitate very precise apotosis, without damaging the micro-environment and connective tissue around the targeted tissue, and as such can be an alternative to e.g. thermal ablation.
The project aim is to facilitate electroporation through an endoscope to mucosa of a luminal organ, such as the intestine or the bladder, by inventing a suitable device.
