Beskrivelse

The advent of digital 3D documentation of archaeological excavations has led to a scene where the theoretical framework of the archaeological documentation process and basis for archaeological interpretation is being challenged. We are now capable of delivering complex spatial data as documentation which lies very close to being without interpretational bias. The primary interpretation is no longer confined to taking place during the field work and we could be on the brink of a paradigm shift in archaeological methodology.
From a theoretical perspective the project will address concepts as archaeological interpretation and objectivity in order to assess the scientific value and challenges of working with complex spatial excavation data.
From a methodological perspective the project will focus on the management of complex spatial data in the archaeological context and the design of a data model, capable of integrating complex spatial data into the archaeological process and research.
