Violeta Hansen


Violeta is a research scientist within Radioecology and radiation protection, with experience in applying this knowledge to the technical assessment of environmental impact statements, especially assessment of radiation dose rate to non-human biota from radionuclides released to the environment for mining & milling projects. Violeta has developed the Radioecology Laboratory at the Institute for Bioscience, Arctic Environment. The developed laboratory is used for radioecology studies covering non-human biota from Arctic terrestrial and aquatic (marine, freshwater) ecosystems, safe management of radioactive waste generated from mining & milling projects, speciation studies, development and testing of new radio-analytical methods, radioactive contamination in food etc. Work is also carried out in connection with the Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP) with a special emphasis on the naturally occurring radionuclides (NOR) in Greenland.

Violeta is involved in the work by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA): a) Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management – National Report from Greenland, b) Modelling and Data for Radiological Impact Assessments (MODARIA II) programme, participating in working group 1 on remediation risk assessment and decision making analysis (NORM) and working group 5 on exposure to and effects from ionizing radiation to non-human biota (wildlife) and Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme (AMAP).

Violeta has previously been involved in the assessment of nuclear emergencies for decision makers, radioactivity environmental monitoring, development and validation of radio-analytical methods for analysis of manmade and naturally occurring radionuclides in the environment and nuclear medicine.
