There has been a great interest in the psychological effects of globalization in Ladakh. Especially the youth are exposed to various cultural influences through greater connectivity with the rest of India and Western countries. Also, education is changing for Ladakhis with vast opportunities for studying at colleges and universities outside of Ladakh. The new possibilities create a large group of young Ladakhis pursuing higher education exposed to a high degree of competition, pressure from expectations, and academic demands. This paper explores how well background information can predict mental health in two samples of Ladakhi college students studying in either Leh or Delhi. Statistical analysis reveals both gender and parental level of education to be significant predictors of both anxiety and depression measure.
