Profil

Seyedsina(Sina) Hosseini received the B.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering from Azad University of Tehran, Iran in 2012. Due to his enthuthisasm in multidisciplinary fields, he pursued the master in Micro&Nano-Electro-Mechanical Systems (MEMS&NEMS) engineering at University of Tehran, Iran and obtained his degree in 2016.

In his master, he was working in micro and nanofabrication processes in cleanroom. His research was design, simulation, and fabrication of micro thermal conductivity detector for micro gas chromatography. Also, he participated a PhD summer school at DTU where he was fabricating a biosensor for detection of Indomethacin in Danchip_one of the most prestigious cleanrooms at Denmark.

He is currently with ICE-Lab, Aarhus University, as a PhD fellow where he is working on ultra-low power brain implants powered by energy harvesting.

Project title:  Energy-efficient ultrasonic energy harvesting for biomedical implants for neural stimulation

As time goes by, Wearable, Portable, Implantable (WPI) technologies find their way into the market. Continuous health monitoring with WPI technologies has opened a very promising, although challenging, door to the engineers for developing smarter and smaller technologies, where low-power and low area are the main concerns, especially for the implantable ones.

In this project, “STARDUST”, the main goal is to provide a novel wireless bio-implantable chip enabling in-vivo monitoring, stimulation and local drug delivery specifically for Parkinson's Disease (PD). In Europe, for instance, 4.5 million people suffer from PD.

The project is multidisciplinary and combines the advantages of MicroElectroMechanical Systems (MEMS), local drug delivery, integrated electrodes and micro-scale light emitting diodes (µLEDs). The device consists of a piezoelectric energy harvester, which can be powered with ultrasonic waves.
