The effect of endophytic entomopathogenic fungi on predators, parasitoids and entomopathogens

New insights to the elusive lifestyle of entomopathogenic fungi outside their insect hosts includes the discovery that several of these fungi can colonize plants as endophytes. This includes the already wide used biological control agent Beauveria bassiana. This has spurred the interest in investigating the bio control potential of B. bassiana as an endophyte being able to suppress both plant pathogens and insect pests. In this regard, the effects on natural enemies and other entomopathogens are not well-known. Therefore this project aims to elucidate some of these effects and potentially the underlying mechanisms.
