We give a formula for the Euler characteristic of a homogeneous line bundle on certain projective homogeneous spaces for semisimple algebraic groups in positive characteristic. Using this we obtain examples of homogeneous projective varieties violating Kodaira vanishing and answer negatively a question posed by Raynaud.
