Research related experience:
Lars Esbjerg has studied collaborative innovation, inter-organisational relations, retailer decision-making and transnational value chains in the food sector. He has participated in more than 20 national and international research projects and has experience organising research conferences and workshops with practitioners, as well as extensive project management experience from both Danish and European research projects.
Recent projects are related to collaborative innovation in the food sector (one EU-financed and two Danish projects), development of strategies and business models for serving base-of-the-pyramid markets (internally financed), transnational supply chains for organically produced food products (financed by DANIDA), and market practices and animal welfare (financed by Svineafgiftsfonden). Current and recent main projects are:
Retailer and consumer acceptance of promising novel technologies and collaborative innovation management (RECAPT),, concerted action project financed by the European Commission (FP7) (executive project director of entire project and work package leader of two work packages)Increasing the value of African mango and cashew production (AFRICAN MANGO), financed by DANIDA (work package leader of WP on transnational supply chains)
Market driven animal welfare – Loose sows, financed by Svineafgiftsfonden (work package leader of WP on market practices in relation to animal welfare)

Previously, Lars Esbjerg has amongst other projects participated in projects on food safety and food quality in transnational supply chains (EU funded), differences in quality perception of food products along the value chain (funded by the Danish Strategic Research Council) and various projects on retailer buying behaviour in Germany and Eastern Europe.

Research interests
How market practices constitute markets and influence consumer practices in relation to animal welfare; how organisational actors make sense of their ongoing experience; sense-making in inter-organisational relationships; retailer buying; trans-national food supply chains; retailer branding; how consumers experience and make sense of retail stores and retailer brand architectures; how store environments set material and symbolic boundaries for consumer choice.

Teaching experience
Lars Esbjerg is coordinator of the Master of Science in business administration with a specialisation in marketing. He mainly teaches courses on (1) designing, implementing and management marketing channels and networks (at the MSc, MBA and graduate diploma level) and (2) philosophy of science and research methods (MBA level).
In addition, he acts as an advisor for students writing projects and theses (in the HA, MSc, MBA and graduate diploma programme). Finally, Lars is currently supervising 5 PhD students, including one in Benin and one in Tanzania.
