Curriculum Vitae

Research:

Since 1991 I have published extensively on the interrelations between media and sport. Besides, I have published on theoretical and methodological issues in relation to media production studies, television studies, entertainment and audience studies. My research in the interdisciplinary field of media and sport has been framed by an interest in broader social, cultural issues like globalization, entertainment and mediatization, which are highly relevant frameworks not only for media and journalism studies but also for a wide range of other scholarly fields of research. My work has been strongly inspired and shaped by participation in cross institutional research communities established around three collective research projects funded by the Danish Research Council. The two of them: Globalization of Culture (1999-2001) and Television Entertainment: Crossmediality and Knowledge (2006-2009 – which I was heading) mixed in various ways analyses of television and digital media. The third project Mediatization of Culture: The Challenge of New Media (2011-2015) was explicitly focused on digital media. Currently, I’m working on a monography, Sport and Mediatization, to be published by Routledge 2019.

Teaching and Supervision: I have a broad experience in course development, teaching and supervision on all levels and in different subjects. I’ve been teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in media development/media history, reception analysis, media system analysis, organizational theory and internship. These courses have implied supervision of individual and group projects. Besides I have developed and taught graduate courses on television lifestyle programs, television and sport, faction in television, mediated entertainment, and most recently a course on mediatization. Finally, I have been teaching courses on sports journalism at the Danish School of Journalism.

Throughout the years I have supervised more than hundred master theses covering a wide range of topics, as well. I have been co-supervisor for six PhD students, and since 2008 I have been main supervisor for three PhD students.
