Research
- Main research area is behavioural and physiological stress responses in animals as well as human-animal interactions. Research projects include effects of housing and management on animal behaviour and physiology, as well as behavioural needs, animal fearfulness and habituation, learning and training, particularly in horses. I am further involved in research projects testing the effect of animal contact on human well-being.

- Invited lectures at international conferences, eg. EAAP, ISAE, ISES.
- responsible supervisor for 3 PhD- and 20 MSc-students, mentor for 2 postdocs.

Teaching
Member of the education committee at Dept. Animal Science, AU. Course responsible for the BSc course ‘Animal Behaviour and Welfare’ (2017- ). Course responsible for MSc. course ‘Project work in Behaviour in Domestic Animals’ (2013-2017) and member of the ‘teacher team’ for the courses ‘Basic Ethology’ and ‘Applied Ethology’ (incl. planning the courses and teaching material) since the start-up of these courses. Examiner for the ‘Basic Ethology’ course from its first year (2008-2017) until changing the course and taking over course responsibility in 2017. Besides, I regularly give invited lectures at the University of Copenhagen as well as other European universities.
I regularly lecture on courses for animal welfare inspectors on subjects in relation to horse behaviour and welfare and have many invited talks at public riding centres about horse-human interactions, horse behaviour, fear, learning and training.
