I offer a model of stable and flexible regulations of psychological energy that maps a number of concepts in Self-Determination Theory (SDT) such that their common structure is highlighted. Included are frustrations and satisfactions of the psychological needs, SDT's taxonomy of motivations, the causality orientations, emotional regulation, parenting styles, freedom vs. autonomy, and psychopathology.
