Current brain-computer interface (BCI) technology is mainly focused on therapeutic outcomes, it already demonstrated its efficiency as assistive and rehabilitative technology for patients with severe motor impairments. For instance, it enabled users to perform relatively simple motor tasks like moving a computer cursor or controlling motorized wheelchair or prosthetic/robotic arm. In parallel, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been used for decoding and processing brain data.
We envision the development of closed-loop smart, low-power, and miniaturized neural interfaces that will use brain-inspired AI techniques with neuromorphic hardware to process the data from the brain. This will be referred to as Brain Inspired- Brain Computer interfaces/implants (BI-BCIs).
Currently, I am working on developing a closed-loop neuromorphic wearable interface for bionic limbs to restore sensorimotor function in people with different types of disabilities such as stroke, amputation etc..using bioinspired SNN for decoding/encoding , neuromophic hadware and flexible/strechable materials for sensing and stimulation.
