Valuable contribution to the development of pre-treatment systems and anaerobic digestion of industrial waste and Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) in Denmark, resulting in several reports for the Ministry of Environment, concerning the use of biogas plants for treatment of waste products and measuring programmes for heavy metals and environmental hazardous components in waste products treated anaerobic.

Supervisor of 7 master students during their studies of anaerobic digestion, pre-treatment and energy crops, supervisor for 3 Ph.D students. Responsible for new course in Biogas technology. Intensive education in biogas technology in South Korea for FAO.

The following research items have been covered during the last years:

New designs of biogas plants to improve performance and pre-treatment of biomass have been studied.
Pre-treatments by thermo-chemical and enzymatic techniques has been studied.
Utilisation of new biomasses as energy crops and crop residues has been studied.
Process control by varies indicators especially VFA by GC or titration has been studied.

Member of the Energy Agency’s biogas committee. 1994-2003.
Project participant for the project “Separation of animal slurry (HAR98-DJF-1)” financed by the research programme Harmony Problems and Precision Agriculture by the Danish Food Ministry. The objective of this project is to improve utilization of the nutrients in animal manure through treatment of the manure prior to application in the field. Included in this project is the aspect of fermentation of manure.
Co-activity leader of IEA Bio Energy Agreement Task XI, activity 4, Anaerobic digestion of domestic waste. 1993-1995.
In charge of operation of full-scale biogas plant (Sinding-Ørre) for treatment of liquid manure, organic industrial waste, and organic domestic waste. 1991-1995.
Project member of an EU market study in Latvia ‘OPET-action BM 20’, 1993: Energy generation from animal manure. The objective of the study was to analyse the potential for energy generation from animal manure in Latvia.
Responsible of starting up, process control and running of several Danish biogas plants: Sinding, Snertinge and Blåhøj.
Projecting and construction of biogasplants: Studsgård, Snertinge and Blåhøj. 1995-1997.
Responsible for running and process control of an UASB test reactor running on waste water from a potato flour factory. 1997.
Responsible for running a test programme on Municipal Solid Waste. The objective was to investigate the heavy metals and environmental hazardous components in waste products and the influence of digestion and separation of digested effluent. 1998.
