The personal is political is theoretical: new materialist proposals for practices of care

Publikation: KonferencebidragPaperForskningpeer review

Does caring contain the potential for its antithesis and, if so, how are we to conceptualize such phenomena – selective practices of care, violent care, hypocritical care, care that blinds us to particular others? Which conceptualizations of care might help us understand and develop ways of problematizing and transforming such agencies?
In this paper I suggest a conceptualization of care focusing the caring practices of human animals - enacted as we are with particular capacities to perform and share affective-analytical processing – to contain particular obligations when entering the apparatuses of which we are. This conceptualization points to a multi-visioned perspective in order to decrease the selectivity embedded in the practices of care. This multi-visioned perspective implies a capacity, and an openness and willingness, to distribute compassion among various positionings and among enacting forces and earthlings in the apparatuses of which we are.
