Devarajan Ramanujan

Sektionsleder for Konstruktion og Produktion, lektor

Prof. Devarajan Ramanujan er lektor ved Institut for Mekanik & Produktion (MPE) ved Aarhus Universitet. Han er også leder af Design & Manufacturing (DEMA) sektionen i MPE. Han har en Ph.D i Mechanical Engineering fra Purdue University, USA og var postdoc-forsker ved Institut for Mechanical Engineering ved Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), før sin ansættelse ved Aarhus Universitet.

Prof. Ramanujan har skrevet over 40 publikationer i konferencer og tidsskrifter, herunder Journal of Mechanical Design, Computer-aided Design, Association for Computing Machinery Conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems, and Tangible, Embedded, and Embodied Interaction. Han har også to patentansøgninger på bæredygtighedsbaserede visualiseringsteknikker i samarbejde med TATA Innovation Labs, USA. Hans arbejde har modtaget flere priser i American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) International Design Engineering Technical Conference. Han har undervist i kurser i computer-aided design, prototyping og produktdesign og modtaget Estus H. og Vashti L. Magoon Award for Teaching Excellence fra Purdue University's College of Engineering.

Prof. Ramanujans nuværende forskning fokuserer på skabelse af designstøtteværktøjer, der hjælper miljømæssigt og socialt bæredygtigt produktdesign ved at studere skæringspunkterne mellem social, computerinformationsbehandling og produktudviklingssystemer.

Aug ’10 – Nov ’15Worked on creating novel representations for lifecycle data to support sustainability-based decisionmaking within product design. Researched design tools, uncertainty quantification methods, and information visualization interfaces for promoting sustainable product design.

Jun ’14 – Aug ’14Developed novel visual analytics-based design software for integrating environmental sustainability in enterprise management. Filed two US patent applications based on the resulting methods and tools.

Baker Hughes Houston, Texas Research Development and Design Engineering Intern

Jun ’13 – Aug ’13Worked with the Hole Opening Technologies group for designing GaugePro XPR reamers. Designed a novel multi-actuation mechanism and demonstrated proof of concept using solid modeling and a 3D printed working model. Validation of structural integrity of the design using finite element analysis.

Jan ’11 – Aug ’11Research consultant for a government funded project on benchmarking environmental sustainability practices of Finnish manufacturing companies. In the course of this project, I also worked with two Finnish companies (Prima Power Oy. & Sandvik Mining and Construction Oy. ) helping them integrate environmental sustainability considerations within their product design practices.
