I am an ecologist interested in the broad question of how parasites interact with their environment and function as integral components of ecosystems. My work focusses on digenean trematodes that parasitize a wide range of vertebrate and invertebrate hosts. I study the role of these ecologically important parasites in various ecosystems and look at their contribution to the systems’ biodiversity, energetics and food webs, their role in species invasion processes, as well as their medical relevance as human pathogens.

I have worked at leading research facilities in my field in Germany, the Czech Republic, South Africa and New Zealand. Currently, I am a Marie-Skłodowska-Curie Fellow at the Department of Bioscience at Aarhus University, Denmark, where I work on the impact of parasitism and climate change on blue mussel populations. You can find out more about this project here.
