Research interests and teaching

Anne Marit Waade is teaching media aesthetics, textual analysis and strategic communication. Her research interests are on screen industries and in particular collaborations across industries (media and tourism), mediated places, e.g. how location is used in TV series production, film tourism, place branding, landscapes and cartographic aesthetics in travel series and travel journalism, site specific aesthetics, paradise as a visual matrix in commercials and performative spatial authenticity. She has a MA in dramaturgy and interdisciplinary aesthetics and culture from Aarhus University 1995. Her Ph.d. (Aarhus University 2002) focused on contemporary theatre, festivals and culture policy.

Research projects and international cooperation

She is the project leader of the national funded long-term project "What Makes Danish Television Drama Series Travel? (FKK, 2014-2018, http://danishtvdrama.au.dk), where she is coordinating the international and empirical research including production studies of the Danish television drama series as well as audience studies in nine different countries around the world. Waade is the director of the research programme "Cultural Transformations" at DAC, Aarhus University, and she has recently been engaged in other national long-term projects on respectively Digital Heritage and Commercials, (Danish National Library 2006-2007), TV Entertainment (FKK 2006 – 2009, www.tvunderholdning.au.dk) and Crime Fiction and Crime Journalism in Scandinavian (FKK 2007 – 2010, www.krimiforsk.aau.dk). In these projects her research work have covered respectively Tourist images in commercials, Armchair tourism in travelseries and Wallander tourism. She is also involved in a Scandinavian interdisciplinary research network on Emotional geography, and she has recently organized an international conference on the subject in Aarhus October 2009 and co-editing the book Re-Investing Authenticity – Emotion, Place and Tourism (2010). During the spring 2009, she was a research fellow at Centre for Tourism and Cultural Change at Leeds Metropolitan University, U.
