My PhD project is interested in the broader question of how national knowledge hierarchies in Danish and British science are sustained by the production and reproduction of academic elites. To be precise, the project compares the career trajectories of elite researchers in ‘quantum information science’ and ‘time series econometrics’ with affiliations to British and Danish institutions of higher education. The project thus makes a comparative sociological investigation of elite researcher careers and employs in-depth interviewing to reach an understanding of the interviewed scientists’ path to becoming elite. The aim is to make the interviewed researchers recall critical career events and social relationships that have been pivotal in shaping them and their research.
