Soundscape studies: theory and method

The purpose of the course is to enable students to analyse auditory environments (soundscapes) with a view to understanding how sound as an acoustic and symbolic phenomenon defines and delimits spaces.
The course deals with how sound mediates the relationship between people and their surroundings. In relation to this, the course introduces the students to theory on sound and auditory environments and to methods with which auditory environments and ambient atmospheres can be analysed, described and designed, for example field recording, sound walks, soundscape composition and sonography.
The course is relevant for students who wish to work with the analysis of design and auditory environments.
