Contemporary Anthropological Themes: Toxicity and Pollution



Toxicity and pollution is everywhere. In the water we drink, the soil we grow our food in, in the air we breathe, and even in our bodies. It transgresses the boundaries of things and bodies, and modern dichotomies of inside and outside. This module will focus on the anthropological study of toxicity and pollution and discuss how to capture ethnographically and methodologically those objects that are spatially fluid, temporally delayed and visually imperceptible.
