Profil

Dr. Aliakbar Kamari is an architect and engineer, building scientist, and educator. He is an Assistant Professor (tenure track) of Architecture Engineering at the Department of Civil and Architectural Engineering, Aarhus University, Denmark. His research aims to explore and deal with the growing (interdisciplinary nature) complexity of the processes and decision-making in the development of sustainable strategies and solutions for the design and/or renovation of buildings and so built environments. Dr. Kamari seeks to combine multifaceted research approaches to issues of sustainability (striving to be holistic in the core), towards re-thinking, reviewing, developing, and applying novel integrating and problem-oriented methodologies and approaches (i.e. BIM and IDP) to solve them. His work, therefore, integrates three areas of expertise: Sustainability and Sustainable Development; Integrated Design methodologies and processes (IDP/IPD); and Building Information Modeling (BIM) methods and technologies. You can read more about his research in the "Holistic Building Design" research pillar here.

Dr. Kamari holds a double degree Ph.D. in Architecture and Engineering, concerning an interdisciplinary research study about the sustainable renovation of existing buildings. During his Ph.D. period and later as a postdoctoral researcher for more than two years, he has collaborated with the Danish ReVALUE research project. In this period, Dr. Kamari, in particular, has developed and operated PARADIS, a BIM-based decision support system for rapid constraint-based generation and evaluation of holistic renovation scenarios. A video of the PARADIS prototype can be watched here.

Prior to joining the Department of Engineering, Aarhus University, Dr. Kamari taught at Tehran Institute of Technology since 2013 and later at University of Palermo since 2015, involved in research and teaching activities related to “Building Information Modeling (BIM)” and its related tools. He is the course responsible for the master's level course "Integrated Engineering Project" and been teaching the course since 2016 in the Department of Engineering, Aarhus University, Denmark. You can read more about the course on the AU course catalog here.
