Beskrivelse
The PTaaD event was part of a series of one-day conferences called ‘Bootcamps’ organized within the PLAYTrack Project at the Interacting Minds Centre, AU. COVID19 has caused us to move much of our social lives online: it’s where we meet, learn, and work together. But the design of video conferencing apps favors formal classroom interaction rather than open-ended play. This lack of opportunity for playful interaction is a fundamental change in the social lives of children. Perhaps this explains some of the recent increase in anxiety and loneliness among children? We invite you to explore with us the current state of the art of online tinkering by participating in a two-day mini-conference with hands-on workshops in an online environment led by facilitators Rupal Jain & Carmelo Presicce (Lifelong Kindergarten, MIT Media Lab), Mariana Tamashiro (Dept. of Digital Design, AU) & Ryan Jenkins (Wonderful Idea Co.), Ryoko Matsumoto & Sebastian Martin (The Tinkering Studio, SF Exploratorium), and researchers from the PLAYTrack Research Group at the Interacting Minds Centre, Aarhus University. The program provides an opportunity to share observations and preliminary findings from our research during COVID19 as we co-develop and evaluate new ideas to improve online sociality for children and tinkerers. The shift to online sociality has been particularly difficult for children who are already in a vulnerable social position, including children with chronic medical conditions and children with developmental diagnoses such as autism and ADHD. To strengthen their social inclusion, we pay special attention to the needs of children with diagnoses. With this event, we aim to boost and share new insights on open-ended play online to improve the social lives of children during - and after - COVID19Periode | 2021 |
