Unusual cases often cause difficulties in programming the appropriate neurophysiological tests.
Case 1 – Heap drop can be associated with several neurological disorder including motor neuron disease, movement disorders, neuromuscular transmission disorders and myopathies. Electrophysiological testing plays an important role.
Case 2- Foot drop is a common presentation which can be associated with significant disability and falls. There is a broad differential comprising; peroneal neuropathy, lumbar plexopathy/radiculopathy, partial sciatic neuropathy and anterior horn cell disease. Electrophysiological evaluation plays an important role in identification of the underlying cause. Furthermore, the evaluation can assist with prognosis of a nerve lesion.
Case 3 – Scapular winging is a condition that the clinical examination may guide the clinical which nerve may be affected. Electrophysiological examination is important for differential diagnosis, and ultrasound is a recent aid to supplement the investigation.
