Gert Tinggaard Svendsen - Foredragsholder

Many times while touring the Danish countryside, foreigners are amused by the sight of unmanned stalls with fresh picked strawberries and crisp asparagus. They are even more surprised to see next to them a small payment box—with extra money for change—which the stall owner will collect in the evening with all of the earnings.
In other places of the world, the strawberries, asparagus and money would undoubtedly have disappeared. Not in Denmark; when it comes to trust the Danes are World Champions. In Denmark, this is evident by the trust in public authorities and law enforcement agencies. What is even more, it is not a rare occurrence to leave our babies in unwatched prams outside of the shops with no worries or concerns. At first glance, this Danish trust may seem silly and naïve. However, from a social perspective it is a great asset. The fact that we are so trustful may contribute to an overall social coherence, a stronger economy and more happiness.

This issue influences a lot of aspects of a society. One indicated about a month ago in the newspaper by Professor Gert Tinggaard Svendsen: When the citizens trust the Danish authorities do their best for the society in general and not for their own gain, the authorities do not need to invest so many resources on forcing through laws and to be in control.

Do participate to gain insight in the Danish way of thinking and acting, and to benefit from an expert in political science and government matters.
