Creating an assembly house for future assemblage

Gellerupparken, an estate on the Western outskirts of Aarhus, has over the past ten years undergone large scale physical and social transformation aiming to change the area from a disadvantaged “ghetto” to an attractive Aarhus neighbourhood. We want to show you a short film montage we’re working with, in which municipal workers, the researchers and a group of young volunteers from all over the city of Aarhus comment on their visions and frustrations related to their shared effort to establish a youth community house (Gellerup Forsamlingshus), a forsamlingshus, at a time where gatherings are prohibited by the Danish state. In Danish forsamlingshus literally means an assembly or gathering house. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic we have explored what a forsamlingshus might be at a time where physical gatherings are not possible. This leads to considerations of both the history of the Danish forsamlingshus and what kind of community Gellerup Forsamlingshus might assemble in the future.
