Translated title of the contributionThe family as consumer
Studies of the family as consumer are underrepresented in research on consumer behaviour. The relatively modest interest in broadening our knowledge of the conditions of family consumer practices is surprising in view of their importance to business, the national economy, nature and the environment. First, the article argues in favour of the relevance of looking into family consumer practices, then goes on to describe the development of this specific niche of consumer research that deals with various aspects of financial decisions made by families. Two current Danish examples are reviewed as examples of contributions by studies of the family as consumer. The paper concludes by arguing that studies of family practices are still of considerable relevance to consumer research within business economics.
