Born 1946, MA/PhD (’Magister’) in Scandinavian Studies, Aarhus University,1974, goldmedal, Southern Danish University, 1972, dr.phil. (’Habilitation’). Assist. Prof., then Assoc. Prof. And then Disting. Assoc. Prof. in Comparative Literature, Southern Danish University, 1973-1992, Center Director, Humanities Research Center: Man & Nature, Southern Danish University, 1992-1997. Prof. in Semiotics and European Culture, Southern Danish University, 1997. – Since 1998 Prof. of Comparative Literature, Aarhus University. Board member of the doctoral schools Synapsis and Hermes. Board member of International Comparative Literature Association, 1991-2004 and General Treasurer 1998-2004, member of the association’s committee for the Comparative History of Literatures in the European Languages 2007-2013, its secretary 2010-2013. Member of Academia Europaea since 2004, chair of its Section for Literary and Theatrical Studies 2010-2014. Board member of the Danish Research Council for Culture and Communication 2005-2010, its deputy chair 2009-2010. Board member of the Danish National Science Foundation 2010-2015. External expert in a number international peer reviews panels, and evaluation committees in international funding agencies. Since 2008 co-editor of the international journal for comparative literature Orbis Litterarum. Author/co-author of 10 books, some translated into English, French and Croatian, 400+ articles and editors of a series of national and international anthologies and special issues.
