HISTORY

Rick Edgeman is Professor of Sustainability & Performance at AU-Herning and in the Interdisciplinary Center for Organizational Architecture (ICOA) at Aarhus University (Denmark). He joined ICOA in January 2012 and AU-Herning in December 2013 after collaborating with the former Aarhus School of Business beginning in 1997 as Visiting Professor in the Quality & Innovation Research Group. Currently he contributes to development and delivery of a graduate program in Process & Performance Excellence, a course on Managing & Organizing Scientific Innovation, another on Six Sigma Innovation & Design, and to a masters course on Sustainable Enterprise Excellence. His primary areas of research are in Sustainable Enterprise Excellence, Socio-Ecological Innovation, and Six Sigma Innovation & Design. Rick's research aims to rapidly identify, advance, disseminate, and embed highly effective sustainability policies and practices into organizations.

Prior posts include Statistical Science Department Professor & Chair at the University of Idaho (2004-2011), QUEST Professor & QUEST Honors Program Executive Director in the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland (2001-2004), Professor of Computer Information Systems & Director of the Center for Quality & Productivity Improvement (CQPI) at Colorado State University (1988-2001), and early career stints at the University of North Texas, Bradley University, and in the Center for Quality & Applied Statistics at the Rochester Institute of Technology. A Six Sigma Black Belt, Rick was a Visiting Professor in the Quality & Environmental Management Division at Luleå University (Sweden) and Invited Professor at the Versailles Business School, University of Versailles Saint-Quentin en Yvelines (France). Invited lectures and keynotes include ones at Oxford University, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, and on behalf of the National Science Foundation. In 1992 he was a Special Congressional Fulbright Senior Scholar under the Securing Eastern European Democracy (SEED) Program to Comenius University in Czechoslovakia, although delayed notification prevented appointment acceptance.

Rick was Founding Executive Director of the Multinational Alliance for the Advancement of Organizational Excellence (1998-2002) and since 2002 has served on the Academic Advisory Council of Hamdan Bin Mohamed E-University in Dubai (UAE). Other honors include Marquis Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in the World in Quality, Manchester Who’s Who Among Executives & Professionals and Honors Edition, Marquis Who’s Who Among American Teachers, and Marquis Who’s Who Among Scientists & Engineers. He is one of six academics globally included among 21 Voices of Quality for the 21st Century (ASQ: 2000).

His research addresses quality, innovation, consciousness, six sigma innovation & design, sustainability, and statistical methods for quality & reliability engineering with results in such leading journals as Business Strategy & the Environment, Corporate Governance, Communications of the ACM, Total Quality Management & Business Excellence, IEEE Transactions on Reliability, Quality Progress, International Journal of Quality & Reliability Management, Journal of Management Systems, Leadership and Organizational Development Journal, and The American Statistician. He was formerly Co-editor of Measuring Business Excellence and is Associate Editor for Sustainability of the International Journal of Six Sigma & Competitive Advantage He has served on the Editorial Review Boards of Total Quality Management & Business Excellence, The Six Sigma Forum, Quality Engineering, International Journal of Product Development, International Journal of Manufacturing Technology & Management, International Journal of Business Performance Management, and the Business & Entrepreneurship Journal.

In April 2013 Rick served as track chair on Sustainable Enterprise Excellence, Socio-Ecological Innovation & Intellectual Capital at the 5th European Conference on Intellectual Capital in Bilbao, Spain. In June 2014 Rick will serve as co-chair of the Performance Management Association Conference to be held in Aarhus and co-hosted by ICOA and Cambridge University.
