Research and Research Management:      

  • 2013-2018     Local researcher-in-charge for the project Living in the Anthropocene. Exploring the Potential of Unintentional Design on Anthropogenic Landscapes headed by Niels Bohr Professor Anna Tsing.  The project  is an  international, cross-disciplinary investigation by anthropologists, biologists, and philsophers into the way humans and other species co-create often un-anticipated landscapes together.
  • 2013-2016      Director of the Research Programme Contemporary Ethnography at the Faculty of Arts and the Department of Culture and Society at Aarhus University
  • 2010-2015      Research Director of the international research network SATS: Sufism and Transnational Spirituality .  The network is funded the Danish Research Council for the Humanities (FKK).
  • 2006-2010      Coordinator of the international research network Political Reenchantment. Religious Dimensions of Democratization in Asia. The network is funded by the Danish Research Council for Strategic Research.

I am supervising or have supervised more than a dozen PhDs in anthropology, and have co-supervised numerous PhD candidate in adjacent disciplines, including philosophy, history, media studies, agronomy, and science of religion.

Fieldwork Experience:

Since 1991, I have conducted anthropological fieldwork in both urban and rural settings in Indonesia totalling more than four years.
