My research interests are in the mechanisms of control of the cerebral microvasculature, and in particular, the role of lactate. These investigations primarily involve work with in vivo models of brain function using optical and pharmacological techniques as well as microdialysis and in vitro assessments of pericyte function. My PhD focussed on using BOLD MRI techniques to investigate the effect of a stem cell therapy for stroke.

I also have a special interest in research quality and excellence through good scientific reporting; the implementation of the 3Rs, and the importance of systematic reviews in in vivo studies in collaboration with the AUGUST group (AU, DK) and SYRCLE (NL).
